Vietnam Airlines applies the piece concept: you get a certain number of pieces, each piece does not exceed the maximum weight. Below is a summary for you to prepare your suitcase properly.

1. Hand luggage

Class	Package number	Weight
General, Special General	1 package + 1 accessory	Maximum total weight 12kg (main piece ≤ 10kg)
Merchant	2 packages + 1 accessory	Total maximum 18kg

Maximum main package size 56 × 36 × 23 cm; accessories (handbag, laptop) about 40 × 30 × 15 cm.

2. Free checked baggage allowance

Each package's total 3 dimensions must not exceed 158 cm.

Journey	Merchant	Special universal	Universal
Domestic Vietnam	1×32kg	1×32kg	1×23kg
Southeast Asia	1×32kg	1×23kg	1×23kg
Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong	2×32kg	2×23kg	1×23kg
Australia, Europe	2×32kg	2×23kg	1×23kg
America	2×32kg	2×23kg	2×23kg

Japan routes have separate regulations based on airport, aircraft type and ticket issuance date (from April 29, 2026, some routes Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City - Narita, Haneda apply 2 pieces). Super Economy Economy tickets may not include a deposit.

3. Babies and members

• Baby under 2 years old (ticket with check-in): 1 bag of 10kg (23kg to America) + 1 foldable stroller.
• Titanium/Gold members of Golden Lotus: 1 extra bag of 23kg; Platinum: 2 more packages.

4. Incentives for international students – LotuStudents

Students aged 15–31 who register for LotuStudents receive 1 additional checked bag (maximum 3 bags, some routes have exceptions from time to time), free first ticket exchange and discounts for each period. VeDuHoc supports you in registering and booking the correct applicable class.

5. Tips to avoid being fined for overage

1. Weigh your suitcase at home, leaving an error of 0.5–1kg.
2. A 25kg package will still be overcharged even though the remaining package is only 15kg - divide it equally.
3. Buying extra luggage before going to the airport is always cheaper.
