Most study abroad flights from Vietnam to the US, Canada, Europe or Australia have at least one connecting point. This is also where the most incidents arise: missed flights, missing transit documents, lost luggage. Before issuing your ticket, check these 7 things.
1. Do I need a transit visa?
Rules depend on your nationality, transit country and whether you leave the transit area or not. For example, when connecting flights in the US, passengers must go through immigration procedures so they need a suitable visa. Always check with the airline and consulate before booking.
2. Can luggage be delivered directly or must it be picked up?
Tickets with the same booking code are usually transferred directly to baggage; Separate tickets may have to be retrieved and checked in again — resulting in entry requirements at the transit point.
3. Minimum connecting time
Each airport has a minimum connecting time (MCT). For students flying alone, you should choose more connecting flights than the minimum.
4. Change station
Some major airports require travel between terminals by train or internal bus — requiring additional time.
5. Overnight flight
If you have to wait overnight, check to see if you can stay in the transit area, have a hotel in the airport, or need a visa to get out.
6. Two tickets from different airlines
If the first leg is delayed, the carrier on the next leg has no obligation to wait. Avoid combining separate tickets when you do not have experience.
7. Who provides support when there is a problem?
Make sure you have a 24/7 point of contact. With VeDuHoc, experts monitor the journey, support emergency route changes and notify parents via Zalo.
